European Funds, 300 million euros for the modernization of the sector
Spain has included sport as a tractor element in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, recognizing the specific weight that this sector has in the country. It is not only an enormously enriching human activity that generates personal well-being; sport is also an important instrument of social cohesion, an effective vehicle for the transmission of values and a strong element of economic impulse.
With an allocation of 300 million euros from the European Funds, the dynamization, restructuring and modernization of the sports sector is being promoted, adapting it to new socio-economic reality through its digital transformation and adaptation to the ecological transition.
Sport has suffered very directly the consequences of the health emergency generated by COVID-19. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt extraordinary and urgent measures for its reactivation as an economic activity, based on criteria of sustainable development, social cohesion, job creation, attention to vulnerable groups and territorial rebalance.
Within this process of transformation, it has also been sought to provide a renewed regulatory framework for the sector through a new Sports Law, in order to empower it as an essential element in maintaining public health and promoting gender equality.
The promotion of the sports sector is reflected in the development of safe and sustainable infrastructures, in the promotion of the digital transformation of sports organizations, in the promotion of research on physical activity as an element of health promotion, in the empowerment of candidates for the organization of major sports events, in the promotion of sports tourism and in the improvement of the network of high performance centers and sports technification.
Special attention is also given to infrastructure in areas at risk of depopulation, the promotion of healthy habits through sport and physical activity - improving the health of our citizens - and the development of specific sectors that promote equality and inclusion in sport.
These measures are focused on tackling the main challenges of sport in Spain.
In all of them, common objectives are present, such as: the creation of stable employment, the promotion of equality, the digitalization of the sector, the ecological transition through sustainable energies and structures, collaboration with territorial administrations and attention to vulnerable or disadvantaged groups.
