Franco: “The CSD will allocate more than 13 million euros in aid to the clubs of the ACB, the Asobal and other sports affected by the absence of public”

The Secretary of State for Sport has explained that the objective of these grants is to alleviate the lack of income of these entities as a result of the capacity limitations in sports shows established as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic

Franco explained that this will be possible thanks to a sport such as football, “locomotive” of Spanish sport and its recovery thanks to the solidarity of its main representatives, Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, both present at the event

In addition, he stressed that the Government will invest almost 1 billion euros in sport during these four years, 33% more than in the previous period, something that “will serve to give sport the category it deserves”

Madrid, 08 June 2021.- The Secretary of State for Sport, José Manuel Franco, announced today during his speech at the Europa Press Breakfasts that the Higher Sports Council (CSD) will convene in the coming weeks three lines of subsidy worth 13 million euros destined to alleviate the lack of income of the ACB, the Asobal and other sports that have been affected by the absence of public in their stadiums and pavilions as a result of the capacity limitations established as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Franco explained that this line of aid will be possible thanks to the contribution of a sport like football that “will again act as a locomotive and revulsive of the sector”. For this reason, he has shown his gratitude to two of those responsible who have made this possible, Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga.

During his speech, Franco highlighted the preponderant role that sport will play in the recovery of the Spanish economy thanks to public policies: “Government support has been and is key, but from now on it will be decisive.” In this regard, he said that the Executive will invest almost 1 billion euros in these four years, which is 33% more than in the previous period, “one of the highest games in history that will serve to give sport the category it deserves”, he said.

With regard to the European Funds, he recalled that the CSD will have more than EUR 300 million from the Union and that they will be allocated to three investment and reform plans: digitisation, the ecological transition of facilities, and the development of a social plan in sport.

On the other hand, Franco, has reviewed the objectives of the CSD during the coming months as “to advance pending reforms, build a new sports model according to current needs and achieve effective equality between men and women in sport.”
